Job Description

  • The Molecular Biology Department emphasizes technological innovation for developing and
applying novel molecular genetic techniques to modeling human diseases and delivering
therapeutic solutions. The department serves as an incubator for new technologies that reveal
unique biological insights, accelerate drug target discovery, and lay the groundwork for cell-,
    gene-, and nucleic acid-based therapies.
We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic intern to join the Molecular Biology Technology
  • Development team to explore cutting-edge molecular techniques and genome engineering
technology. This individual will work closely with members of the group to design and execute
experiments, analyze and interpret data, and communicate findings with the Genentech
research community. Responsibilities may include molecular and genome engineering
techniques such as; sequence design, synthetic gene assembly/cloning, PCR, IVT, NGS,
mammalian cell culture, transfection, flow cytometry and protocol troubleshooting, while
maintaining sterile lab techniques and lab safety compliance. The candidate is expected to be
agile, collaborative and eager to contribute to a fast-paced, evolving research program.

● A self-motivated candidate with a MS/PhD in the Biological Sciences (Genetics, Cell
Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genome Engineering, or a related field) with
1+ years of work experience in a relevant industry or academic setting.
● Practical expertise with basic molecular biology techniques (sequence design, cloning,
PCR, qRT-PCR) and mammalian primary and immortalized cell line culture (sterile
techniques, transfection/electroporation, cell-based assays).
● Experience with sequence/data analysis platforms and/or programming languages such
as Benchling, Snapgene, FlowJo, R, Python, etc. desirable.
● Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and will be
required to analyze and present data at team meetings.
● The candidate should be team-oriented, highly organized and eager to learn new skills.
● Additional expertise with techniques including synthetic gene assembly (Golden gate,
Gibson cloning etc), in vitro transcription, DNA nucleases (CRISPR/Cas9), next generation
sequencing, automation, bioinformatics or flow cytometry preferred.
