Description:
We are seeking a creative, self-motived and collaborative Contractor/Scientist 3 to join the Department of Immunology Discovery at Genentech. We are looking for a candidate with experience in neuroimmunology/T cell biology and in vivo work (experience with EAE models preferred) to support and accelerate our pipeline programs aiming to develop novel therapeutic approaches to treat inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
The successful candidate will be performing efficacy and mechanism-of-action studies in both healthy and diseased mice in vivo, and will be establishing and testing new disease models to enable biological discoveries and mechanistic insights in autoimmune diseases. In addition, the candidate will have an opportunity to learn, implement and apply other key techniques such as cellular and molecular immunology, single cell RNA sequencing, genetic screens and nucleic acid-based therapeutics.
This is a hands-on laboratory position that involves close collaboration with an interdisciplinary team including colleagues from translational immunology, immunology discovery, protein and nucleic acid chemistry, bioinformatics, safety and toxicology assessment, human pathobiology & reverse translation, early clinical development, and biomarker discovery. The Contractor/Scientist 3 will report to a Principal Scientist in the department of Immunology Discovery, a division of Genentech Research and Early Development.
Responsibilities:
Participate in the discovery and investigation of nucleic acid-based therapeutics as mono- and combination therapies
Perform exploratory disease-oriented in vivo research and make innovative intellectual contributions(both scientific and technical) to advance pipeline programs as part of a diverse multidisciplinary team
Independently design, execute, analyze and present studies to various forums within the department and across the wider Research organization.
Qualifications:
• The successful applicants will have a PhD in (neuro)immunology, T cell biology, autoimmune disease biology, cell biology, genetics, cell signaling or related field. Postdoctoral and/or post-PhD research experience in either academic or industry setting is a plus.
• Experience in EAE and other autoimmune disease mouse models (using subcutaneous and intravenous injection techniques), cellular immunology and translational research; ability to perform high quality functional assays including
in vivo experiments, primary cell isolation and advanced flow cytometry. Experience in single cell genomics and/or genetic engineering is a plus.
• Demonstrated record of cutting-edge research and technical independence as evidenced by first or co-authored publications in peer reviewed, top tier journals.
• Ability to collaborate with and motivate others.
• Excellent oral/written communication skills and creative problem-solving are
required.
What to Expect from Us:
• A highly collaborative and dynamic research environment where we aim to translate our understanding of autoimmune disease biology and immunology to develop novel therapies to transform clinical practice to benefit patient health.
• Access to state-of-the-art technologies and pioneering research.
• Participation in seminar series featuring academic and industry scientists.
• Campus-like lifestyle with a healthy work-life balance.
• Awesome colleagues and a tight-knit team to work with.
